The Opportunity
The Senior Analyst, Housing Economics and Real Estate is a pivotal member of SHS’s consulting team, responsible for leading and supporting complex analytical projects that influence housing and real estate policy across the country.
This role involves economic modeling, statistical analysis, and strategic advisory work to evaluate housing markets, forecast demographic and financial trends, and support affordable housing development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:

Conduct housing economics and real estate market analysis, including demographic forecasting, financial modeling, and policy impact assessments.

Develop economic and statistical models to support housing needs assessments, financial feasibility studies, and policy recommendations.

Perform environmental scans and literature reviews to identify trends, lessons learned, and emerging issues in housing and real estate.

Prepare forecasts and analyses related to demographic shifts, market conditions, and housing affordability.

Contribute to the design and evaluation of affordable housing strategies, programs, and policies for government and non-profit clients.

Create data visualizations, reports, and presentations that translate complex findings into actionable insights for diverse audiences — including policymakers, community stakeholders, and housing providers.

Support and occasionally lead stakeholder engagement activities, including surveys, interviews, and focus groups.

Participate in project management activities, tracking deliverables, supporting client communication, and ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Provide mentorship and guidance to junior staff and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to deliver impactful, evidence-based work.
Qualifications and Experience

Post-secondary education in economics, real estate, statistics, business, public policy, or a related field; graduate-level education preferred.

5+ years of relevant experience in housing economics, real estate analysis, or public policy research (consulting experience is an asset).

Strong research and analytical skills, including the ability to gather, interpret, and model large data sets to produce actionable insights.

Proven ability to develop and refine financial models, including ROI, NPV, and IRR calculations, to assess housing and policy impacts.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; familiarity with data visualization or statistical tools is an asset.

Knowledge of housing and real estate economics, public finance, and affordable housing policy and programs.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling, evidence-based narratives.
