Recruitment fraud has become a growing global issue, with fraudsters increasingly
targeting job seekers by posing as legitimate executive search firms and recruiters.
These scams are often sophisticated and may misuse company names, team member
identities, photographs, logos, and other branding elements to appear genuine.
Phelps has recently become aware of fraudulent communications falsely claiming to
originate from our firm and members of our team. While these messages may appear
authentic, they are not legitimate communications from our organization. In several
cases, emails have been sent from Gmail or other non-company accounts while
improperly using the names and identities of Phelps team members. We are sharing
this notice to help protect candidates, clients, and collaborators from these scams and
raise awareness of this impersonation campaign.
How to Identify Legitimate Phelps Communications
All official communications from Phelps are sent exclusively from email addresses
ending in @phelpsgroup.ca.
If you receive a message claiming to represent Phelps, we encourage you to:
- Carefully verify the sender & email address.
- Be cautious of messages sent from Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, or other personal email domains.
- Avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unexpected attachments.
- Contact us directly if you are unsure about the authenticity of a communication.
Important Reminder
Phelps will never request sensitive personal or financial information as part of an initial recruitment conversation.
We will never ask candidates to:
- Provide credit card information.
- Share banking or financial account details.
- Make payments to participate in a recruitment process.
- Purchase equipment, software, or services on our behalf.
- Share passwords or security credentials.
If you receive a request of this nature from someone claiming to represent Phelps, please treat it as suspicious and do not respond.
What to Do if You Receive a Suspicious Message
If you believe you have received a fraudulent communication claiming to be from Phelps:
- Do not reply to the message.
- Do not click any links or open attachments.
- Do not provide any personal, financial, or confidential information.
- Report the communication to Phelps by contacting our team directly.
